School was out! And I was now spending most of my time in the Oceans. A week earlier I had met a pretty strong willed mermaid, her name was Emerald, I had challenged her to a play fight underwater. She was pretty good at sword fights. I could talk and play underwater for hours without breathing, How? I don't know, being a mermaid is pretty complicated sometimes.
It was early afternoon and I was with Emerald in the Atlantic Ocean. Whenever I was around her, I felt nervous, yet excited.
“Are you ready?” she asked me, drawing out her sword on the other side of the algae field, she flicked her brown hair aside.
“Ready.” I mumbled, my golden-orange tail flapping with anticipation
I saw A swordfish at the side of the field, sort of refereeing the playfight. He tapped a rock loudly, and the two of us raced into the centre of the field. The red tailed mermaid instantly tried to attack by using her sword she was fast, but my reflexes were faster. I did a mid-sea backflip before landing in a fighting stance. Emerald just nodded slowly and then dashed at me again, she used her tail to whack me when she hit me. I went flying and then ended up doing many somersaults before collapsing to the sand.
“So… dizzy.” I muttered, barely able to focus my vision, when I got it back, I saw the strong willed mermaid hovering over me.
“Ready to give up yet?” She asked, her arms folded.
“No way.” I protested. As fast as I could, I swam upwards, the brown haired mermaid followed – just as I had planned.
I suddenly held up a hand, my water powers created a currant that made Emerald lose balance in mid sea,
She was heading for the seabed. She managed to regain her balance just before she hit the ground. I darted down to see whether she wanted to forfeit.
“No!” She groaned loudly, sitting up. That answered it, I grinned,
Emerald looked up at me and grinned too, then got up, as if ready to get real. She got her sword and used it to send a blast of sea energy out at me (sea energy is her magical power). It hit me hard, but I tried not to show it by looking confident.
I could tell my frenemy wanted to win, she used her sword to create an extra large bolt of ocean power. It hit me and I was smacked to the seabed again. “I guess you win.” I sighed in defeat. I watched Emerald gasp and feel her forehead. What was wrong? “Are you okay?” I asked, suddenly, she fainted to the sand. I guessed that the fight had drained all of her sea power, I had to admit, I felt a little tired myself.
I swam to her side and began to work my magic, I used my powers to blow a small amount of water in her face to wake her up, and cool her down. The mermaid’s brown eyes fluttered open. Some colour returned to Emerald's cheeks as she she sat up.
“Eden? What happened?”
“My magic hit a bit too hard. How do you feel?” I asked.
“Fine… just a bit sapped of strength.” She explained. “My powers hit hard too, you should rest.”
I nodded, I had never heard her talk about someone else in public.
“Alright. Let’s play next week. Bye.” I waved.
I had never seen Emerald like this before. I actually began to wonder if we we’re starting to become friends.
All for now!
